Whether the situation has forced you to work remotely, or you have chosen it yourself, you will have to face the challenges such a change brings. Our tips will make this transition smoother.
After the pandemic, remote work has become something obvious for us. The instant change was not followed by the metamorphosis of our workspaces, though. Suddenly, we had to find a calm corner in our houses or apartments. And since most of us do not have a spare empty room at our disposal, we would end up working from the kitchen or dining table.

That, of course, does not favour productivity. To maintain high effectiveness and focus, we need space adjusted to the specifics of the work - comfortable, appropriately isolated, and separated from the relaxation zone. This way, we are able to seamlessly enter the "work mode" and avoid wasting time arranging the space so that it fits our needs at the moment. But how to create such a space when there is not much space available at all? We have some solutions that can help you with that!

How to divide the space without making it less spacious?

When the relaxation space, cooking space, common space, and workspace intersect each other, it becomes very difficult to manage life effectively. Not only does it affect your own ability to focus, but also other household members' comfort. Making clear divisions between these zones does not have to require putting up walls. How to do it then?

#1 Use glass divisions

Dividing the space with glass walls is becoming increasingly popular in small houses and apartments. You can use it to create an office space that is not only visually but also audibly isolated. Make sure to pick a corner of the room that is not fully exposed to the sunlight. Otherwise, the space may heat up too quickly. If you want your room to look a little more industrial, we would recommend the glass divisions with a black-painted metal span.

#2 Use wooden divisions

If you are determined to separate the space visually but do not need the audial isolation, you can choose spaced wooden poles as a division. They let the sun circulate in the room while symbolically marking the borders between the zones. Plus, they look stunning! If you want the beautiful shade effect, pick thinner poles, and put them closer to each other.

#3 Use the middle of the room

In most cases, when creating an interior design, we distribute the furniture around the walls while leaving the middle of the room empty. However, you can turn this order upside down, moving things to the middle and making them face the opposite walls of the room. It is a perfect way to create zones in one room without introducing any divisions.

For instance, you can put the sofa or a bed in a central point of the room, back it up with a low bookcase and put the desk on the other side. This way, you will be able to create a workspace even in the tiniest living room or bedroom. This approach has one great advantage - it favours the natural flow of sunlight inside the room.

#4 Use different colours

You can also separate the working zone from the rest of the room by painting it in a distinct colour or adding some beautiful wallpaper. You can hire painting and decorating contractors to add some texture on the wall or just create a colour contrast with different paints. It can be subtle - like sage or salmon with white or cork with clay.

How to create good working conditions?

A lot depends on your habits and needs, but in general, it is worth paying attention to such aspects as:

  • lighting - the lights with regulated intensity and colour temperature make the working environment much more friendly and flexible;
  • spaciousness - if your working corner limits your movements, you will most likely have tendencies to work from somewhere else;
  • make sure the area is spacious enough the regulate the chair, open and move furniture or equipment - it is crucial to comfort;
  • sound isolation - if you have calls on a regular basis, think about installing soundproofing solutions - they are becoming cheaper and can have a visually attractive form.
